About the Question CSV Loader

You can import questions in bulk via the Question CSV Loader. You can create new questions and update existing questions, so questions can be reviewed and approved, rejected or retired offline instead of in the Question Editor.

To get started, you can download a CSV file template and populate the required fields offline in a spreadsheet application or text editor. The LMS provides information to help you fill in the CSV template, such as the expected values for each field. For more information, see Question CSV Loader Field Reference.

To review, approve or supply answers to existing questions, first export them to a CSV file from the Exam and Question Manager Questions tab. For more information, see Export Questions to CSV File.

When creating a question, the mandatory fields are:

When updating a question, the mandatory fields are Action and Question ID.

Administrators with read-only or unrestricted access to the Exam and Question Manager feature and unrestricted access to the Data Loader feature in System Roles (Manage Features > Exam Manager Features) can import questions.

To import questions via the Question CSV Loader, go to Manage Center > Learning > Question CSV Loader

Preparing CSV Files for Import

To prepare a user CSV file for import, you can download a template CSV file from the Question CSV Loader page or export existing questions from the Questions page and populate the fields as required. The CSV file template and exported questions CSV files include any question attributes (prefixed with QT-) for which you have at least read-only access permission.

Note that CSV files are likely to be opened by Microsoft Excel if it is installed on your system. If you encounter any problems with importing a CSV file into the LMS, it could be caused by Microsoft Excel applying extra formatting to the file. Alternatively, you can edit CSV files in a text editor instead of Microsoft Excel. The data should conform to the formatting required by the template as specified in the corresponding CSV Formatting Help.

If the values for text area fields include punctuation, these fields must be enclosed in double quotation marks (" "). Do not include commas or semicolons in other fields as they could be interpreted as a field delimiter (depending on your choice of delimiter at import).
