Creating questions for exams can involve one or more people. For example, you can create and activate questions yourself, create questions and have subject matter experts supply the answers, or create questions with answers and have them reviewed before activation. The Question Approval Mode System Configuration setting specifies whether questions must be created via an approval-based workflow, in which its status progresses through Work in Progress, Ready for Review, Reviewed and Approved. Administrators with the Allow Question Approval Override Role General Permission in System Roles can bypass the approval workflow and approve it themselves. Only questions with an Approved or Active status can be included in exams.
When you create a question you assign it to a question pool or one of its topic or sub-topic pools. Questions in a pool share several properties, including the program or learning module sessions that qualify for automatic exemption when participants achieve a minimum score or better. Exams can also select random questions from a pool to provide a different selection of questions each time the exam is taken.
You can export questions to a comma separated values (CSV) file with the same format as that used to import questions via the Question CSV Loader. This lets you create questions for others to review or provide answers for using a spreadsheet application instead of the LMS.
The LMS supports 10 different question types. You can also include images, video, audio and web pages with questions. You cannot change a question's type after it has been created.
Questions can have attributes, which can be used to help categorize them. Question attributes are shown for all questions but they are visible only to LMS users who have been given read-only or unrestricted permission to them. Questions can also have language bundles so they can be delivered in the exam participant's preferred language.
You can view questions in the Questions page in the Manage Center and configure them in the Question Editor. The following access permissions in System Roles (Manage Features > Exam Manager Features) are needed to configure, review and approve questions:
To create or clone questions, the Allow Question Creation General Role Permission must be enabled in System Roles > Data Access Control.
Reviewers and approvers must have the following General Role Permissions in System Roles:
